Anthony J. Wilson is a photographer and film director born outside Detroit, Michigan. He left home at 18 for film school at Columbia College Chicago and never quite stopped moving. He now works between Asheville, Los Angeles, and New York. His work is built on intimacy and observation. Staying long enough, getting close enough, until the full complexity of a person or a place starts to show itself.

Writing in The New Yorker about his photobook Mawmaw, Casey Cep described it as "more than an assemblage of masterful images. Collectively, its subjects form a subject, an idea of family greater than any one family, and they make a moving argument about love's indifference to circumstance and age."
